Pimsleur Approach

The Pimsleur Approach is a kind of language learning approach that was instituted by Paul Pimsleur. This course promises its student to learn about a language of their choice within a span of 90 days. It aims to teach adult people through audio CDs which contain lessons about different languages. The idea of this language learning approach is for the student to understand how oral conversation works in order to absorb the rules of grammar. This is what most of us did when we are just starting to learn to speak our first language. With the use of Pimsleur approach, people would be able to understand and learn foreign languages by using the same building blocks that was used when we are starting to communicate orally. Paul Pimsleur identified these building blocks so that people could quickly learn a language that a person chooses to study.

Pimsleur Approach: Theory of Graduated Interval Recall

Paul Pimsleur based his theory in the graduated interval recall that merely tackles the learning process of spaced repetition of words and phrases to be able to remember them in the future. When a new concept of words, grammar and phrase are introduced, one should repeat it for many times to help the learner retain the new idea in their minds for future remembering hence a good way to familiar one’s self to the new word.

The intervals that Pimsleur suggested are used in the 90 day course to be familiarized with the word. This is quite a boring approach for those who are not really into repetitive tasks but very effective if taken into a serious note. Each lesson is done for 30 minutes a day. Some may want to exceed the time if they want.

Pimsleur Language System Overview

This approach is audio based. With 4 CDs containing 8 lessons, it presents the phrases to be learned in a student’s target language, and then will be translated to your mother tongue. The audio CD would be presenting different words and phrases to its student, the student would repeat the word, and then the audio would tell the correct word.

The 30 day trial version of the Quick and Simple Pimsleur Approach program would cost $10. This could be refunded if the audio CD is returned in its most excellent condition. But you will be automatically enrolled to other programs that would be sent to you.

If these programs are not returned within 30 days, it would cost you $256 in 4 installments and 4 additional shipments depending on the kind of language that you have chosen.
